7 Ways to Monetize Your Blog

#1 Become a Media Expert

Media outlets are always looking for good product spokespersons. Build a relationship with your local press outlets (TV, radio, newspaper, magazines and online) and create ongoing columns/features that you host. Charge brands a small fee to be featured in the press and you can create packages with this perk. For example, say you are doing a “Gifts for Kids” segment on your local news station. You can offer seven brands the following:

  • TV feature
  • Themed Giveaway on your blog (all seven brands together in one)

#2 Themed Gift Guides

Creating themed gift guides throughout the year is an awesome way to provide content to your audience but also make some money! For example, Back to School / Preschool, Black Friday Deals, 12 Days of Christmas, Baby Shower Gift Guide, Mother’s Day Gift Guide, and more.

Partner with other bloggers to make the guide more appealing to brands. Have a free level to hook the brands in, but then offer some affordable add-ons they cannot resist. For example a holiday gift guide offer could look like this:

  • Gift guide with deals from all brands in the guide
  • PLUS, three winners – each receive a huge gift prize pack (divide up all the prizes in the guide – so each brand only gives away ONE prize)

#3 Facebook Live Unboxing

As a blogger you must get packages and boxes arriving often at your house – as the owner of BIBB Magazine we also get samples and it’s exciting to see what’s inside. This is a perfect opportunity to bring your fans in on the fun. Save up a few boxes and do a FB Live video of you opening the items. Fans will then see what’s going on for you that day: Are your kids there with you? Are you working in your office? etc.

This will get each brand that does a blogger review more exposure!

Here’s how you can structure a package for this:

Blogger Review (free):

  • Sample required
  • One item to give away drop shipped to the winner

$50 Review Boost:

  • FB Live Unboxing Video
  • Send us one social media post for our Facebook page and you may boost it for any amount you wish (we will approve all copy before we post)
  • Receive the email list of entrants once giveaway is over

MONEY FOR YOU: If you do 5 reviews a week that’s $250 extra each week = $1000/month

#4 Blogger Loop Giveaways

Partner with 5 bloggers to do a LOOP on Instagram. Each blogger then gets 8 brands to participate in the loop. So you have 40 brands in total in the loop. Because you have the 5 bloggers involved, the loop will get more exposure and work better (if you choose bloggers with large followings).

  • Brands that have 20k or more IG followers are FREE.
  • Brands that have 10k+ pay $15
  • Brands with 5k - 10k followers $20
  • Brands with under 5k followers pay $50 AND must boost their IG post for $20 (so more people see it) (smaller brands will pay more because they are usually denied being part of the loop with bigger brands)

This gives the opportunity for bigger brands to work with brands that are good but just starting out. The 8 brands each blogger chooses should be a mix from really big brands to middle sized and new brands. The smaller IG brands will boost a post so it remains fair about the reach their posts gets.

MONEY FOR YOU:

  • If a blogger gets 2 big brands, 2 10k brands, 2 5k-10k brands, and 2 new brands 5k and under = $170 per loop paid to each blogger
  • Create a themed calendar and do three loops a month = $510 extra a month

#5 Facebook Live Videos by Brands

Brands will pay to get in front of their target audience! If you have a good Facebook audience built up, offer a Facebook Live Sponsored Video on your page without you having to do much work at all!

For example, October is SIDS Awareness Month. Partner with some safe sleep brands like the SafeSleep Breathe-Through Crib Mattress to host a Safe Sleep FB Live video on your page. It can be 20 minutes long and the brand offers tips and advice etc. on the theme. You can have them submit a script so you approve the content first just to be safe - if you want.

Include a giveaway from that brand and other safe sleep products. Ask people to LIKE and COMMENT to enter. You can even ask them to LIKE all the brands pages (not required to enter but appreciated – this covers you to be within Facebook’s rule) or enter their name and email so we can easily contact them if they win. Run the giveaway at least a week after the FB Live video posts since many engage and see it after it goes live.

You can offer a package that looks like this:

  • Host a FB Live Video on our Facebook page
  • Ask our fans to like/follow your FB and IG pages
  • One giveaway item drop-shipped to the winner
  • Up to 5 additional brands that match the theme can be added – all these brands will share the FB Live for bigger exposure
  • We will boost the FB Live Video Post for $50 for one week
  • Option to collect emails.
  • Submit a guest blog post with some of your tips and we will link to the full FB Live video and SEO link back to your website.

Investment = $350 for the FB Live host

If you want to charge the additional giveaway brands you can or you can keep these free but say it’s $100 if you want the email list or want us to include your brand in how to enter (Like Your FB Page for example)

MONEY FOR YOU: Schedule two per month = $700 a month to $1700 a month if you charge the giveaway brands

Package can look like this:

  • Inclusion in a top 10 Tuesday blog post (product image, description, and link)
  • All 10 brands will share on social media and to their email list for max exposure. (Tagging each other and our blog)
  • Receive a share post and graphic for easy sharing in seconds

Top Ten Plus $50:

Everything above plus…

  • PR pitching for your product (pitch theme will be the top ten theme)
  • Solo share post about your product with image and you may pay to boost it on our FB and IG page

MONEY FOR YOU: So if you do 4 top ten Tuesdays in one month = 40 brands; if 20 do the $50 add on that’s $1000 extra a month – if all 40 do the add on that’s $2000 a month.

#7 Sponsored FB and IG Posts

  • Email list at the end (capture the emails so you can have even more to give to the brands plus grow your list)
  • Reminder Boosted post the following week (Mon or Tues)

  • Winner announced Thursday (next day after it closes)
