Twitter is one of the main social media networks that every company should take advantage of. Twitter is a conversation network; it is the perfect resource to learn up to the minute conversations that people are having about specific keywords that are relevant to your company. However….there is a misconception about Twitter.
In my experience, I have heard people question what a company would tweet about. They suggest - “We are going to a meeting now” or “I am eating a ham sandwich” (I say each example as I bob my head from side to side)…No “Bobblehead Tweets” please! These two examples are both exaggerated assumptions and quite frankly are a clear fallacy. We (my company) are certainly not tweeting about nonsense, but are providing valuable information that drives action (directing people to website, to our blog, to call us, etc.). Any outlet where you can create exposure to millions of people for FREE is worth it! Of note, in addition to creating exposure, Twitter enhances your online presence and search engine optimization as well.
Back on track….it is safe to say if you are a company who is wondering if you should create a Twitter account…yes, you should!
Twitter Tips:
You can utilize the Twitter search functions in various ways including, but not limited to:
1. The main search function on www.twitter.com page allows you to search up to the minute conversations taking place about specific keywords. For example, if I search Long Term Care Insurance (LTCi), I immediately get results of the latest conversations regarding LTCi. In turn, my company can build on these current topics of interest that are buzzworthy to promote our brand message. Use it to your advantage and also follow the people who are tweeting about relevant topics of interest!
2. The search function within your profile allows you to search for specific target audiences. For instance, since we provide customized compensation benefits for executives, attorneys, and physicians, I can seek out these types of people and then deliver our message to them by providing valuable information that peeks their interest and ultimately solves their problems.
3. Utilize either search function to grow your Twitter network. We search for target audiences and follow them, and in turn most begin to follow us!
Overall, Twitter is a resource that is extremely valuable to your company. There is a misconception out there that Twitter is about nonsense tweets, but the reality is quite the opposite. Please do not let other people’s assumptions steer you away from adding to your social media empire. Happy Tweeting!
